EXPO 98 / UNITED EUROPE 98
A few pilots can still register for this raid, from July 31 to August 10. Please see conditions below. The flight (some minor modification may still be done) will start on July 31 in Mezzana Bigli, near Pavia. All participants will then fly together to the Cristofo Colombo international airport of Genoa, where a press conference will be held. This airport will be the official start of the raid - something not to be missed, as the required authorizations are seldom granted. Then flight towards France, following the coast via Vintimiglia, Menton, Monte Carlo avoiding Nice, and Cannes. Police and csutoms, overnight. Then Fayence, Montpelier, Pamier, Oloron. Overnight. Police and customs in Oloron, then Biarritz, San Sebastian, Ontaneda, Oviedo. Overnight Oviedo, Lugo Rozas, police and customs. Lugo Rozas, Braga, police and customs. The detaille program for Portugal, including the visit of the Expo 98, is still under preparation. Conditions: Only experienced pilots may take part into this raid. All required documents will have to reach Giorgio Frank, the organizer, well before take-off. Any participating pilot must have an ultralight able to sustain a 100 km/h cruise speed, with a stall speed less than 65 km/h, and a 450 kg MTOW. Mandatory items on board are: a radio with aeronautical frequencies, a life jacket, tie downs, oil for 2 stroke engines. Pilots must have the valid national ultralight licence, the registration number certificate, the airworthyness certificate, a third party insurance of not less than USD 650'000 valid for the EU, a valid identity card (UE citizens) or a valid passport. Other informations: All overnight stays are in hotels, camping not allowed. All airports have Avgas 100 LL, which can be used without problem on Rotax engines. Very good navigation skills are a must, and the aeronautical maps must have been studied well before departure. A GPS is strongly recommanded. Spoken English (good or bad) is necessary. Within the team, several Italian pilots speak German, French or Spanish. Costs: Everyone pays for his own expenses, in all fields. In that sense, this is not an organized travel, rather an opportunity to fly together, get to know each other, and show that ultralights are a safe transportation mean.
