The one and only hydro- and amphybian utralights international competition, which is permanently raced just in front of the visitors. This year, Challengers from France - private pilots and manufacturers - will join against Italy's (and maybe UK) for this international speed and ability race flying over water in a triangular circuit located in the small town of Desenzano del Garda. Desenzano, found on the southern end of the Lake of Garda, offer all needed services to visitors. And, of course, ULM Europe will be there to issue a report within the next few months. The Targa M.llo Francesco Agello is the promotional formula of the the Small Schneider Trophy, and is open to all pilots with serial made ultralights. A handicap formula ensures all competitors race with equal cances to win. Don't miss it if you want to see pilots' capabilities, and compare the true performances of various hydro/amphybian ultralights.
As from next year, the Targa will be followed by the test edition of the PCS. The PCS is the "Formula 1" part of this challenge, with ultralights specifically built for the purpose of this race - but that could eventually lead to serial production. Such ultralights are presently built and tested in the USA and Italy. While in the Targa speeds average 120 - 150 km/h, racers in the PCS should reach 200 - 250 km/h. As a scoop, we present you here below one these racers, the Italian Tomassini TG98 FFL3, seen here without its floats and national paint scheme, ready to go into wind-channel tests.
From this competition are awaited technical improvements in the body and motors. All participating aircrafts muts correspond to the present ultralights rules, plus a number of specific ones mainly for security - such as the possibility to extract the pilot swiftly in case of a technical problem.
