BLOIS 98

Blois remains the largest European fly-in and exhibition dedicated to ultralights, and attracts each year more than 70 exhibitors from several countries. This years' weather unfortunately grounded a number of visitors that wanted to come in flight. However, the exhibitors stated that contacts where excellent. Several thousand visitors from the whole Europe used that variable weather to make their choice.

Don't forget the '99 edition:

BLOIS 1999 - From September 4 to 5

Always the largest exhibition and fly-in in Europe, this year probably with more eastern exhibitors as well.

Information: Blois

'97 report: Blois 97

That year, the surprise came from the visit of Wolfgang Dallach, with his Fascination, who made a nice show. That ultralight is at the top of the ultralight range, together with Dyn'Aero MCR 01 UL and coming soon B+F Technik's FK 14. But the true new one was...

... the JOKAIR, a small "intimate" two-seater, with a fighter look. This ultralight - that we will try as soon as possible - offers an ideal solution for people who do not regularly fly with a passenger. It has a cruise spee of 155 km/h and a max speed of 180 km/h with a 582 Rotax. Various engines are available.

Another plus: wings can be folded within minutes. A version offering a better space for the passenger with a 912 Rotax engine is currently prepared.

We really loved that ultralight: it present a different vision from the traditional ultralights, while using proven solutions for its manufacturing, and a competitive pricing: as from FRF 185'510 TTC (28'540 Euros).

Air Domi's all-metal Stol Trophy TT 2000 has an interesting pricing. In 99, it will be as well available with the now well known BMW engine from Chapelet, which should give it a real attractive fuel consumption.

From Italy, the attractive JF97 from Euro Ala was first time seen in Blois. This ultralight, derivated from the Ikarus C22, gets better performances owing to its fairings and a better wings profile. A nice ultralight for sightseing.

Cosmos displayed the body work for the - long awaited - Helios. Let's hope to see one in flight in '99, Cosmos having now it's new manufacture.

But the new came from the a rigid wing on a trike. Several companies are now testing this solution which, in due time, should allow for better performances in weightshift ultralights. We'll as well test it when available.

Two recovery systems were demonstrated from a trailer. That allowed all pilots to remember that this accessory is like an insurance: you hope never to have to use it, but it still can save lives.

The GRS range covers speed from 160 to 240 km/h, for prices ranging from FRF 10'350 to 17'850. The maintenance is available - each 6 years - and the lifespan reaches 25 years.
