AERO 97 - MOTAVIA
Some companies truly have the right to get their products known. We believe that Motavia is one of them, as a company wishing to provide the ultralight industry with a reliable, economical to buy and to maintain motor. The result, applying innovative solutions, is definitely interesting for our ultralight activities.
ULTRATEC:
This motor was first designed to present an altenate to the 582 Rotax, and therefore can be installed where the Rotax was, not even needing to change the propeller. It is now completing its JAR-22 certification, and production motors will be available as from July '97.

Interesting is that while the housing is Motavia's, the lower motor parts originate from a Yamaha TDM 850, and the upper part from a Ford Zetec. For the user, this brings maintenance easyness, not speaking about replacement parts' costs.
The Ultratec is a twin cylinder 849 cc modern motor, 4 stroke, electronic injection with altitude compensation, DOHC, dual digital ignition, 4 valve per cylinder, that develops 60 kW (80 HP) at 6'500 rpm, with a 80 Nm torque at 5.500 rpm.

As can be seen on the pictures, the DOHC arrangement makes it taller than a usual motor. This was of course taken care of by the manufacturer who offers 3 different gear boxes allowing to keep the same space between propeller and ground as with a 582. Gear boxes allow 8 gear ratios from 1:2.62 to 1:3.55.
A specific attention was given to vibrations: pistons and rods have been balanced to within 0.5 gm, and the counterweight crankshaft to within 25 gm/m.

And that's not all: housing is powder coated, what warranties for longer life of the external parts. You may choose between a 60 HP or 80 HP version. The simple change of a chip allow to upgrade from the 60 to the 80 HP version, allowing you to upgrade your ultralight without having to change the motor.
Even better: should you use the electronic combined instrumentation, the warranty is 2 years, something unheard of in the ultralight field to date.
 Combined digital control unit
This compact unit shows low oil level, low fuel pressure, oil pressure, oil temperature, water temperature, rpm (accuracy 12 rpm), volts, total hours and trip hours all in one.
The same unit takes care of your motor, by reducing the rpm until temperatures are OK, by avoiding overreving, and should that be needed, progressively reducing rpm on overheath.
You may furtermore appreciate the pricing: Complete 80 HP Ultratec GPB 4'750 / DEM 15'289, with the control unit bringing warranty to 2 years GPB 5'500 / DEM 17'704. The upgrade to go from 60 to 80 HP is GPB 250.
